Horrible! Six months later and I still haven't received compensation (despite having taken out specific insurance with them) for 5 items that arrived broken. I didn't have time to open all the boxes (there were 166) within the 15 days they gave me, so I've only been able to claim for the breakage of 5 items. Over the months, I've discovered more broken, damaged, poorly packaged, or unpackaged items (a mirror as is, with the frame broken). They also stole the painting you see in the photo (which proves it was at the original address). I will never hire Gil Stauffer for moving services again!!! Terrible service, and if you complain, you'll be treated terribly!!! I also filed a complaint with Gil Stauffer's headquarters, and months later I'm still waiting for someone to put an end to this abuse!!! The latest is that Ms. Telva Forcano from the Las Palmas office refuses to accept my bank statement with certified bank account details and my full name so that, at this rate, years later, they'll finally deposit the compensation!
I hired a storage unit in Gran Canaria, Pirineos, Girona for two months, costing almost €5,000. The owners left eight items behind and stored them with a neighbor. When I changed the destination to a closer and more accessible location (Murcia), they charged me extra for one of those two months of storage plus an additional €400. Everything arrived broken and incomplete: a fridge-freezer, dryer, two TVs, washing machine, ceramic hob, etc. The boxes of clothes and other belongings were full of cockroaches! A box of underwear belonging to an elderly gentleman that is not mine (for whoever is looking for it) and many cartons of dark tobacco, Mechanics brand (I smoke light tobacco). Upon delivery, an elderly gentleman (Juan) arrived with two immigrant boys, one from Estonia and the other from Peru, who had just arrived without residency, a contract, or anything, so they neither knew nor wanted to hurt themselves. I called the police (this is documented). They are NOT professional movers. Perhaps the tobacco was contraband and other things, I can't tell you more. I've tallied up the cost and bills for broken belongings, and I've spent over €10,000. DO NOT sign the delivery note like I did. Call the police and file a report with photographs. They paid each boy €30 plus a meal for unloading and setting up. That TELVA magazine is a real piece of work. I REPEAT, they are NOT professional movers.
If anyone is thinking of moving, BEWARE. I absolutely do not recommend Gil Stauffer. You hire their moving service, and since it's to Lanzarote, they tell you it's no problem. So far, so good. They take your money, and once you're paid, the nightmare begins. They bring your belongings, and when they arrive... Surprise! Multiple items are destroyed due to rough handling. The movers are rude, foul-mouthed, yelling, and criticizing their company. They only bring two people, so we decided to help unload, otherwise they would never finish, and the guys said it was impossible for them to do it alone. The movers mistreat your things—kicking, punching, and hitting them. To our astonishment, they gather their own things and leave, abandoning them outside the house, saying they don't have any more time and that they have another delivery to make. We call the company, and they tell us they'll call them back. Are you kidding me? What kind of professionalism is that? I don't want those people in my house anymore, to which they replied... Well, I'm sorry, but there's nothing more we can do. In the end, we found ourselves having to move everything ourselves due to the rain alert, including furniture, boxes, appliances, etc. I asked for explanations, and they just kept giving me the runaround. I asked for an online complaint form, and they said they didn't have one. I asked to speak to management, and... silence, not a peep. In short, they charged almost €4,000 for moving and storage, and we feel ripped off. I have photos showing the damage and the state they left everything in outside if anyone wants to see them. Never hire this company if you don't want to lose your belongings and money, not to mention your nerves and patience.
Terrible. They broke a piece of furniture during the move, which they didn't secure or cover to prevent scratches. And on top of that, when I asked for a solution, they sent a worker to do such a botched job that it seems like they're laughing at me. They wash their hands of it, claiming they didn't have any insurance. They have no shame.
I would give this company 0 stars, but unfortunately that option isn't available. I contracted them for the removal of the contents of a flat in Las Palmas de GC to my home in the UK. I was shocked to find that on arrival in December 2014 most of my furniture had water damage, some so wet that they couldn't be brought into the house. Despite documentation having been sent to them attesting to this by the agent here in the UK, witnessed by the removal firm here and the storage company, I am getting nowhere at all in terms of compensation, despite having paid insurance in good faith. I asked for someone to inspect the damage and was told this was not their policy and photographs had to be sent. The agent did this and I also sent photographs of other damaged and broken items. I have spent a fortune in phone calls but most times the person wasn't in the office, nor conveniently was his boss. Despite having sent all the requested documentation, it is just being ignored. I am told each time that my phone call will be followed up and that I would receive a phone call or an email - I am still waiting. We are now almost 14 months down the line and my health has suffered greatly as a result of all the stress and living for months among boxes and suitcases as I had no furniture to put my clothes and belongings in, not to mention that my hair has fallen out and have spent more time in hospital in the past year than I have done in the 63 years of my life. My advice to anyone considering using this Las Palmas office I'd don't touch them with a barge pole.
